The method involves manual shaking the cylinder with the cutting fluid emulsion or solution and measuring the column of the resulting foam.
1. Equipment, materials, reagents:
2. Test preparation.
Pour 100 ml of the cutting fluid emulsion or solution in a clean and dry graduated cylinder, stopper it, turn horizontally, and set the stopwatch.
3. Test procedure.
Shake the graduated cylinder with the cutting fluid emulsion or solution with swinging motions horizontally with amplitude of 70 cm for 1 minute. Then put the cylinder on a horizontal surface.
Immediately after shaking, determine the difference between the surface of the foam and the meniscus of the emulsion, which numerically expresses the foaming tendency.
Allow it settle for 1 minute and measure the volume of the foam again to determine the foam stability.
For repeat determination, pour the emulsion off and fill the cylinder with tap water until there is no foam. Repeat this procedure for each re-determination. Arithmetic mean of the three determination results shall be taken as the test result.
